Couple-friendly PG in Bangalore: rules, what to ask, and what it costs

Why most PGs turn couples away, what couple-friendly should really mean, the questions to ask, and how a private couple room compares with renting a 1BHK.

Key takeaways
  • Most PGs are built single-gender with no private rooms, so "couples allowed" is often an unofficial arrangement that ends the day a neighbour complains.
  • A genuinely couple-friendly PG lists the couple room on its price list, takes an ID from each of you, and bans everyone (including you) from entering other residents’ rooms.
  • On NoBroker in October 2026, 1BHKs list at roughly ₹10,850–35,000 in HSR Layout and ₹8,550–20,000 in Bommanahalli, with deposits of ₹30,000 to over ₹1.3 lakh before food, bills or furniture.
  • Vaikuntum Bommanahalli’s couple room is a Two Share XL at ₹15,000 per person, all-inclusive, with a TV, larger beds and an attached bath; the only upfront payment is a ₹5,000 advance.

A couple-friendly PG in Bangalore is rarer than the listings suggest: most PGs are gents-only or ladies-only by design, and "couples allowed" often means a shared room with a curtain and a manager who may change his mind. This guide explains why that is, what a genuinely couple-friendly setup should include, the questions to ask, and what a private couple room costs against renting a 1BHK in south Bengaluru.

Why most PGs in Bangalore refuse couples

The traditional PG is a single-gender building: an owner, a cook, a floor of two- or three-sharing rooms, and one rule book written for either men or women. Couples break that model three ways. They need a private room, which most PGs do not have. They need the building to be comfortable with men and women under one roof, which many owners, and their neighbours, are not. And they trigger paperwork: two IDs, a question about marital status, and a worry about what other residents will say. So most owners say no, and the few who say yes often do so unofficially, which is worse, because an unofficial arrangement ends the day a neighbour complains.

That is why a search for a PG for couples in Bangalore returns so many "contact for details" listings. The honest answer is usually that the room exists but the policy does not.

What a couple-friendly PG in Bangalore should actually offer

  • A private room, in writing. Not a two-sharing room you happen to share with each other until a third bed is "temporarily" added. The room type should be named on the price list with its own rate.
  • Both IDs, both consents. A good operator collects a government ID from each of you and treats you as two residents, each with the same rights and the same notice period.
  • No test of marital status. An unmarried couples PG that is genuinely couple-friendly will not ask for a marriage certificate; it asks for the same documents every other resident gives.
  • Clear rules on other rooms. Couple-friendly cannot mean a free-for-all. The right rule is that residents enter only their own room: you share your room with each other, and nobody else's.
  • The same guest rules as everyone. Your friend visiting is a guest with the same permission and the same fee as any other resident's guest.
  • An attached bathroom. Sharing a corridor bathroom as a couple in a mixed building is awkward for you and for everyone else.

Questions to ask before you book a couple room

  1. Is the couple room a listed room type with its own price, or an arrangement?
  2. Do we each get a receipt and an app login, or is one of us "the guest"?
  3. If one of us moves out, what happens to the other's rent and room?
  4. Can either of us bring a friend into the room? (The right answer is no.)
  5. Does the room have its own bathroom and hot water?
  6. What are the silence hours and the fines, so we are not the ones breaking them?
  7. Can parents visit, and under what rule?

What a couple room costs against a 1BHK

The usual alternative for a couple is a 1BHK. On NoBroker in October 2026, 1BHK rents in HSR Layout are listed at roughly ₹10,850 to ₹35,000 a month, with deposits of about ₹34,000 to ₹1,33,000. In Bommanahalli, 1BHKs list at roughly ₹8,550 to ₹20,000, with deposits from around ₹30,000 to ₹1,50,000. Those figures are rent and deposit only. Add groceries or a cook for two, electricity, internet, a bed, a fridge, a water can and a plumber's number, and the flat's real outgo climbs well past the listing, as our co-living vs renting a flat post walks through.

At Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli, the couple room is our Two Share XL, priced at ₹15,000 per person per month, all-inclusive. For the two of you that is ₹30,000 a month with nothing else to pay: three meals each, laundry, 1 Gbps internet, daily housekeeping, hot water, power backup, the gym and the rooftop. The only upfront payment is a one-time advance of ₹5,000; there is no security deposit and no brokerage.

Monthly rentroughly ₹10,850–35,000₹30,000 for two (₹15,000 per person)

The flat still wins if you want your own kitchen, a pet, or to stay three years. For a first year together, a project posting or the months before you buy, the couple room wins on money and on time.

The couple room PG in Bommanahalli, in detail

The Two Share XL has larger beds, a TV, an attached bathroom with hot water, 10-inch spring mattresses on storage beds, large wardrobes and marble-finish flooring. The building is new, opened in October 2026, with face-recognition or card entry, CCTV across the floors and 24/7 security. The rules that matter to a couple: you share your couple room only, and nobody else enters it; the common areas (rooftop café, box-cricket arena, gym, 4K projector theatre, PS4 lounge and dining hall) are for everyone; visitors need prior permission, approved guests are ₹500 a day, and an unauthorised or overnight guest is a ₹1,000 fine; parents may visit in the daytime with approval; silence hours run 10:30 pm to 6 am. Hongasandra metro on the Yellow Line is a three-minute walk, with Electronic City five stops away and Koramangala about 5 km by road. The PG in Bommanahalli page covers the neighbourhood.

Who it suits

Couples who both work on the Hosur Road or Electronic City corridor; couples new to the city who do not want to furnish a flat before they know which side of town suits them; and couples who would rather spend evenings on a rooftop than negotiating with a landlord. If you need a kitchen that is yours alone, a flat is the better answer, and we will say so on the visit.
