- BBMP’s PG guidelines ask for CCTV at every entry with 90 days of footage, a verified guard round the clock and 70 sq ft per resident; a June 2025 investigation found many PGs still fall short.
- In August 2025, five of ten Bengaluru PGs contacted by a reporter posing as a tenant asked for no government ID at all. A PG that does not verify you is not verifying anyone else either.
- Check six things on the visit: how the door opens, where the cameras point, who shares your room, who may enter it, what happens after midnight, and who is physically on site.
- At Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli, entry is by face recognition or card, women share rooms only with women, men are not allowed in women’s rooms, and security is 24/7.
The safest PG for women in Bangalore is not the one with "ladies only" painted biggest on the gate. It is the one where you can see how the front door opens, who will share your room, who is allowed to enter it, and who answers at 2 am. This checklist covers exactly what to look at on a visit, what to ask, and how we handle each point at our Bommanahalli co-living.
Why a checklist and not a gut feeling
Search for a ladies PG in Bangalore and every listing says "safe and secure". Bengaluru has had written PG rules since August 2024, when BBMP issued ten conditions for paying-guest accommodation after a woman was killed in a Koramangala PG, with inspections every six months and the power to shut a PG without notice. The rules ask for CCTV at every entry point with 90 days of recording kept, at least one security guard with verified credentials on duty round the clock, a minimum of 70 sq ft of personal space per resident, hygienic toilets and bathrooms, and licences for the kitchen and for fire safety.
On paper, that is a decent floor. In practice, a June 2025 investigation by The News Minute walked into several PGs unchallenged, found buildings with no outside cameras and no guard, and could verify licences for only 17 of the 38 PGs it visited. In August 2025, Deccan Herald called ten PGs posing as a tenant; five never asked for a government ID. In early 2024 the city had about 2,292 PGs with a BBMP trade licence against a police estimate of at least 5,000. The rules exist, but the only inspection you can count on is your own visit.
Girls PG safety: eight things to check with your own eyes
- Entry control. How does the main door open? A guard who waves everyone through, a latch, a keypad whose code never changes, or a face-recognition or card system that logs each entry? Stand at the door for five minutes and watch who walks in.
- CCTV, and where it points. Cameras at the gate, the lift, each corridor and the stairwell, not just one above reception. Ask how long footage is kept and who can view it.
- Who shares your room. In a mixed building, confirm in writing that women share rooms only with women, and ask how a new roommate is allotted.
- Who may enter your room. The rule you want is simple: residents enter only their own room, and men do not enter women's rooms, full stop. Ask what the penalty is.
- Visitor rules. Are visitors allowed only with prior permission? Where do they sit? Can anyone stay overnight, and what happens if someone sneaks a guest in? Vague answers mean there is no rule.
- Night access. Is the entrance lit and covered by a camera after midnight? Who is physically on duty at night: a guard, a warden, or nobody?
- A manager on site. Someone with a name and a number who sits in the building, not an owner who lives across the city and "visits weekly".
- The approach. Walk the last 300 metres from the main road or the metro after dark. A good building on an empty lane is still a problem at 11 pm.
Questions to ask on the visit
- Can I see the exact bed I will get, and meet the women who share the room?
- What ID do you collect from residents, and do you verify staff and housekeeping?
- Who is on duty at night, and where do they sit?
- What are the written rules on visitors, parents and guests, with the fines?
- How long is CCTV footage kept, and can I ask to see it if something goes missing?
- Are housekeeping staff allowed into my room when I am out, and is that logged?
- Is there a women-only floor or wing, or are rooms mixed along a corridor?
- If I feel unsafe with a roommate or a neighbour, who decides what happens, and how fast?
A good PG answers all eight in five minutes because the answers are already written down. If you get "don't worry, it is very safe here" instead of specifics, that is your answer.
How Vaikuntum Bommanahalli handles each point
Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living occupies the 4th to 6th floors of ARR Almas Tower on Hosur Road, Bommanahalli, opened in October 2026, and takes men, women and couples under one set of written rules.
| Checklist item | At Vaikuntum Bommanahalli |
|---|---|
| Entry control | Face-recognition or card access at entry; 24/7 security |
| CCTV | Cameras across the building |
| Who shares your room | Women share rooms only with women |
| Who may enter | Residents may enter only their own room; men are not allowed in women's rooms and vice versa; couples share their couple room only |
| Visitors | Only with prior permission; parents may visit in the daytime with approval; approved guests ₹500 a day; an unauthorised or overnight guest is a ₹1,000 fine |
| Night | Silence hours 10:30 pm to 6 am; a diesel generator keeps lifts, lights and Wi-Fi on through any power cut |
| On site | 24/7 security; rent, requests and notices through the resident app |
| Valuables | Private cupboards in every room; management is not responsible for loss of valuables, so lock them |
Housekeeping access is mandatory and daily, which is also a safety feature: a room nobody is allowed into is a room nobody checks. The common areas, rooftop café, gym, theatre and lounges, are for everyone, so you share the building without sharing your door.
Working women and the Electronic City commute
For a working women PG the commute is part of the safety picture, because the alternative to a late cab is a well-lit metro. Hongasandra station on the Yellow Line is a three-minute walk from the building; Electronic City Phase 1 is five stops away, roughly 10 to 15 minutes, which makes this a practical women's PG near Electronic City without living inside its traffic. Kudlu Gate is one stop, Silk Board two, and HSR Layout about 3 km by road. See our pages on a PG near Electronic City and a PG near Hongasandra Metro for the commute map, and the moving-in checklist for what to pack.
Rent is all-inclusive, with three meals, laundry, 1 Gbps internet and daily housekeeping in the price, no brokerage and no security deposit, from ₹6,500 in a seven-share to ₹25,000 for a single with an attached bath.
