- Book your PG after a visit or a live video walkthrough, pay only against a receipt, and arrive with a bed, not a hotel booking and a list.
- A BMTC monthly pass for ordinary city buses was ₹1,200 in mid-2026; Namma Metro fares are distance-based from about ₹10, with QR day passes on the official app.
- Plan for food, transport and small things on top of a bare-room PG; an all-inclusive PG at ₹6,500–27,000 removes most of those lines.
- Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living in Bommanahalli is a 3-minute walk from Hongasandra Metro, with no brokerage, a one-time advance and 30 days’ notice.
Moving to Bangalore for your first job goes smoothly when the bed is booked before the train ticket and the first four weeks have a plan. This guide is that plan: what to do before you arrive, what to sort in each of the first four weeks, what the month will actually cost, and how to get to work without losing an hour each way. It is written for freshers landing in the south and south-east of the city, where most first postings in IT and start-ups are.
Before you arrive
- Book the PG after a visit or a video walkthrough. Shortlist by office location, call, and either visit on a weekend trip or ask for a live walkthrough that shows the entrance, the corridor and the actual room in one take. Pay only against a receipt in the business name. Our scam checklist explains what to refuse.
- Documents. Aadhaar or passport, PAN, your offer letter, a few passport photos, and your college ID or degree certificate. The PG wants a photo ID; your employer wants the rest.
- SIM and banking. Your existing SIM works in Bengaluru, but a local number helps with deliveries and autos, and the operator store will want a photo ID. Open or update a bank account with your new address once the PG receipt is in hand, because salary and UPI run through it.
- Transport cards. The Namma Metro official app sells QR tickets and, since January 2026, 1-, 3- and 5-day unlimited QR passes with no card deposit. BMTC sells a monthly pass for ordinary city buses, ₹1,200 in mid-2026, with a ₹1,500 version for routes beyond city limits.
- Pack light. A managed PG gives you the mattress, bedding and cupboard; our move-in checklist has the exact list.
Week 1: land, verify, test the commute
Check in, hand over your ID, read the house rules once, and install the resident app if the PG has one. Walk the building: dining hall, laundry, where the manager sits after 9 pm. On day two, do the office commute at 8:30 am, not on Sunday, and time it both by metro and by road. Buy a metro QR pass for the first week while you learn the network. Set a rent reminder for the due date, which is the 5th at Vaikuntum, with a ₹200-a-day late fee after it. Find the nearest pharmacy, ATM and 24-hour supermarket.
Week 2: routine, food, money
By now you know whether the PG’s meal timings fit your shift. If breakfast is 8–10 and you leave at 7:45, talk to the kitchen rather than skipping it for a month. Start laundry on a fixed day. Open a simple spreadsheet with four lines: rent, transport, food outside the PG, everything else. Cost-of-living guides updated in 2026 put a bachelor’s food and grocery spend at roughly ₹4,000–8,000 a month and transport at ₹1,500–3,000; an all-inclusive PG with three meals pushes the first number toward zero and the second depends on whether you are on a metro line.
Week 3: the city beyond the office
Bengaluru is a city of pockets, and the first job is easier if you find yours. From the south-east, Koramangala is the food and nightlife centre, HSR has the cafés and co-working, and Indiranagar is a long ride for a weekend. Join one thing that is not work: a weekend cricket group, a run club, a language class. If your PG has a rooftop or a lounge, you will meet people without trying; at the Bommanahalli branch the rooftop box-cricket arena and the 85-inch screen for match nights do that job.
Week 4: review the numbers
Here is what a month in Bangalore for freshers in the south-east typically looks like, with Vaikuntum’s all-inclusive prices for comparison.
| Line | Typical bare-room PG | Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli |
|---|---|---|
| Rent | Roughly ₹5,000–15,000 per bed, depending on area and sharing | ₹6,500 (seven share) to ₹27,000 (single XL with TV) |
| Food | ₹4,000–8,000 if meals are not included | Three meals included |
| Internet, laundry, housekeeping | Often extra | 1 Gbps internet, ten washing machines, daily housekeeping included |
| Transport | ₹1,500–3,000 | Same, but Hongasandra Metro is a 3-minute walk |
| One-time | Deposit of one to two months is common | ₹4,000–5,000 advance; ₹2,500 maintenance at vacating; no monthly deposit |
If your take-home is tight, the sharing type is the lever: moving from two share to three share at Bommanahalli saves ₹2,500 a month with the same rooftop, gym, theatre and food. Our co-living vs flat post covers why a first-year flat rarely makes sense once the deposit, brokerage and furnishing are counted.
Commuting: metro first, then everything else
The single most useful thing to know before moving to Bangalore is that your commute is decided by where you sleep, not by how early you leave. The Yellow Line runs 19 km from RV Road to Bommasandra with 16 stations and by June 2026 was running roughly every 7 minutes at peak. If your office is at Electronic City, Kudlu Gate, Silk Board or BTM, a PG on that line turns a Hosur Road jam into a 10–15 minute train. Metro fares are distance-based from about ₹10 a ride, so a daily round trip is well under what an auto costs. If your office is in Koramangala, Ejipura or Domlur, choose a PG you can walk from and forget the metro altogether.
Where a PG fits when moving to Bangalore for a first job
A new-to-Bangalore PG should do four things: sit near your office, include food and internet in one number, ask for a small one-time advance rather than a deposit, and let you leave with 30 days’ notice when the posting changes. Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli is new, premium, takes men, women and couples, and does all four, with no brokerage, a one-time advance of ₹4,000–5,000 and no lock-in. Any shifting to Bangalore guide will tell you to visit before you pay; we agree, which is why the visit is free.
